Breast ExamYour clinician will examine your breasts for lumps, thickening, irregularities, and discharge. Breast lumps are often discovered by a woman or her sex partner. Discuss any lumps, thickening, irregularities and discharge that you have noticed. Although most lumps are not cancerous, it is very important to report anything unusual to your clinician as soon as they are noticed. PPWP recommends an annual mammography for every woman aged 40 and for younger women who have a family history of breast cancer. Referrals for this service are provided at the time of your exam. A mammography is an x-ray photograph of the breast. These x-rays can detect abnormalities and can help make early, lifesaving diagnosis of cancer. A mammography can detect a lump up to two years before it can be felt. |
