Implanon

This method of birth controlVoluntary limitation or control of the number of children conceived, especially by planned use of contraceptive techniques. is administered by inserting a single rod (about 1/2 of an inch long) under the skin of the upper arm. This rod releases hormones into the bloodstream that prevent the ovaries from releasing eggs, thickens mucus at the cervix to prevent sperm from entering the uterus, and changes the lining of the uterus to make it more difficult for a fertilized egg to attach to the lining.
